Who says you need a paintbrush
I love making signs for my house and I made this MARKET sign for the kitchen. It was once a sign with a silly saying on it that I found at a garage sale, and I knew when I bought it I would repaint it.
I painted the inside white and the border a teal-ish color. Because the original sign was stained I took advantage of that and used a chip brush giving it a weathered painted look and allowing the original color to show thru.
Now onto the the lettering and hand, I just didn’t have the time to sit there and paint it, so why not a permanent black marker? I found the font and hand image I wanted, enlarged it to the size I needed and used carbon paper to trace onto the sign frame. I found the pointing hand image at Graphics Fairy, she has the best images.
Because the wood was a little textured the letters aren’t completely filled in which gives it a worn aged look. It was meant to be in that kitchen and I just love it hanging above the shelves.
So next time you have a project that is a little labor intensive, why not use a marker instead of a paint brush.
this is just beautiful. I LOVE how you use teal in your kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI would have never guessed!
ReplyDelete...looks great, Pat
Gorgeous! The sign, the kitchen, all of it!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely in love your kitchen, I get jealous every time you post it. My husband will let me paint my kitchen cabinets white, boo.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, it's just wonderful! I love your sign! and you're right, why not use a marker!

What a great tip. I bet it was much easier than using a small brush.

Love it! You have such a pretty kitchen too!
ReplyDeleteGreat sign! Love the counter tops too. Permanent markers are one of my favorite things... maybe even something needed for my "desert island" list -I even keep one handy in each car. Don't tell anyone...
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is perfect! We're doing the Ikea countertops too and plan to stain them dark. Can you tell me what stain you used? It might save us some time on trial and error. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great and thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea...thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove those dark countertops!
I've been thinking about getting "paint pens" to do my lettering...didn't realize a plain old Sharpie would do the trick! Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful kitchen! I actually used a permanant marker on a sign I made the other day for outlining the lettering.
ReplyDeleteNice job on the sign. I love the colors!
Everything in the picture is absolutely beautiful! I do love your sign!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful kitchen...we're about to start painting our cabinets, and the pictures of your kitchen make me want butcher block counters instead of the concrete ones I've been planning to try.
ReplyDeleteI've done a lot of hand-painted signs, monograms, etc...but never thought to use a marker. I bet it's so much easier to control!
I really love your sign. Can you tell me what font you used and do you have any suggestions on where I can find it.
ReplyDeleteThanks...Tracy
