Painted Kitchen Floor
Well it's finally done, well at least the painting of the floor is, I still need to put a several coats of polyurethane on it.
Since our entire house has wood floors and the kitchen has 2 openings that connect to the rest of the wood floors, I didn't want to try and match it, so I decided to paint it.
We laid the oak floor ourselves and while it was easy it was back breaking work. I originally wanted to paint it but after laying the floor my sweetie told me that he wanted to see the grain of the wood, so I white washed it instead.
Once I made up the stencil and got started it, it much easier that I thought it was going to be.
I added the turquoise circles to add a little color without being too overwhelming.
I'm happy with the way it turned out and can't wait for my kitchen to be completed.
Wow ~ Beautiful
ReplyDeleteTrixie- Great job! I think I would have had a hard time convincing my hubby to let me do that to a brand new floor. I love it! Hugs- Diana
ReplyDeleteYou really did a great job, most important when working on a project like this is that you keep the pattern subtle. And you did. It's not over done, the diamond shapes are close to the color of the natural floor, and the small dot you added is just perfect. Very well done as is all your projects. Can't wait to see it all together.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty! Well done! Can't wait to see you kitchen all completed!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so good! It love that it is a subtle pattern. I'm sure it will look fantastic with the rest of the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! What a labor of love!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! And so perfect for your home. Just love the combination of white wash and stenciling which is so unique.
ReplyDeleteI just HAD to facebook it. :)

Our guys are similar- love that wood floor! Paint it???????!!!!! I specifically chose our wood floor to be painted, but 21 years later it's still stained...I'm thinking I have a good shot now because we put wood in the living room and it's a different stain than the rest of the floor. I'm just trying to decide if I try to match the entry and dining to the lr and paint the powder room and kitchen or what... You've done a great job! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It turned out great. I have painted several floors and it can be back breaking work. I have learned to use my little cart I sit on to pull weeds to help me out a bit. Especially when marking off the floor I can scoot along and save my knees. It also works great for painting or staining those baseboards and painting those low spots.

ReplyDeletelove you floor we are about to lay oak plywood floors in our kitchen we cut them to 6 inches to that the would look like the old plank flooring... Im wanting to white wash and use your stencil idea... was wondering if you could share what products you used to white wash and paint im thinking of using chalk paint for the stencil. also did you use polyurethane or polycrylic sp? im worried the urethane will yellow over the white... also i found your stencil through bhg.. and they said you blew it up to 200% im having a hard time figuring that out any change you could tell me how to do that and still get the whole image to print even if its in multiple sheets...
ReplyDeletethanks so much love all your work!
