Embellished Cabinets

The cabinets we picked out for our Kitchen reno are plain unfinished oak cabinets. I wanted to add a cap and crown molding to add height as well as character, we used oak plywood and stock crown molding to get this look.
This particular cabinet will have a glass front door and the interior will be painted white like the exterior. It's amazing how a little molding can really change the look. I've got tons of painting to do but I think when we get finished it will look great.
And for a much needed break, I'm off to Atlanta this Friday for the County Living Fair, I can't wait! This is their first year in Atlanta and I'm sure it will be fabulous.

  1. New cabinets, how exciting! Can't wait to see them finished. I will be at the CL fair too. Maybe I will see you there! Have fun.

  2. Am LOVING it so far! Can't wait to see it all finished and decorated!

Could you post a close up of the trim you used to bridge the gap between the existing cabinet form and the plywood you added? It's not super clear in the pic.

    Have fun at the fair!

  3. The cabinets look amazing! Wow! Can't wait to see the finished product! Have fun in Atlanta!

  4. Very cool idea. Can't wait to see the whole thing redone. Hugs- Diana

  5. Looks like it's turning out great. Trim can really change things up.

Have fun in Atlanta. Wish I was still there so I could go.

  6. Oh it is going to look fabulous!
    Have fun in Atlanta

  7. Lovely! I just did something similar (adding molding to an otherwise ordinary piece) in my living room on a bookshelf. I love the idea, and it was my husbands. I think I'll make him a decor expert afterall!

  8. Great idea to add onto the cabients. I can't wait to see them when your all finished. So very jealous that your able to go to the Country Living Fair. Hope you have so much fun and you take lots of photos to share with the rest of us.

  9. Looking good...great idea to add on! Hope you have a wonderful time in Atlanta...I thought about going, but football got in the way.

  10. Hmm, crown molding.....That may be just what I need in my kitchen to hopefully kinda sorta maybe hide the unevenness of this old house....I'm sure my hubby will love it, he so loves me finding new projects for him *snicker*

  11. How exciting to get new cabinets!! They look gorgeous so far. Good luck with the renovating! xoxo

  12. Wow! Now, that's one huge difference! I don't know if you've ever been to Rue's Peanut Butter and Jelly Life, but she did a fabulous little topper on the top of her cabinets too. Sort of like little open boxes... I was blown away by the difference it made. Sadly, she's no longer blogging. Darn. I always thought I could go back and look at that cute idea if I ever had the need.

Can't wait to see your finished project. It's yummy so far!

    Warm blessings,

  13. I am loving the look of your cabinet. Say, do you plan on painting the inside white as well? I would do the same.
