Paris Burlap Chair
This chair started out upholstered with a beautiful floral needlepoint fabric that over time my cats destroyed.
After awhile I got tired of seeing the tattered piece looking in need of repair, so I thought about using the same technique that I used on my faux framed French burlap feed sack,
I didn't do anything with the frame, as much as I love painted furniture I decided I liked the color of the wood on this chair. It would look awesome in a painted cream with a little distressing. Maybe in it's next life.
I removed the old fabric and stapled on the new burlap then I glued on a braided hemp trim to hide the staples. I can't wait to find another one to redo.

Oh My Goodness Trixie! This chair is a beautiful masterpiece! I am always in awe of your talent although it has been way too long that I visited you here. You have such a talent for turning things into such masterpieces. Thank you for sharing with me today and I hope the fourth of July is a wonderful celebration for you and yours! Anne
ReplyDeleteoh..just lovely! how did you transfer the graphics to the burlap?? would love to give this a try! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I love this look. I have a question for you. I would like to cover a headboard in burlap. But someone talked me out of it because she said it sheds. Is this true? I know a lot of decorators are useing it now. Is it just the edges of the fabric or will the fabric actually shed? I really want to use it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jonna
Just glorious!! Love that transformation. It actually sounds like something I could do. ha!

Really, that easy??? It looks amazing. You are awesome. Why do cats always ruin the ones we love:(
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Trixie! I agree that not every piece of furniture needs to be painted either.
ReplyDeleteOh it looks wonderful! I have some old chairs from my parents that I desperately want to fix up, but I am afraid of what I might find on the inside so I keep putting it off.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your beautifully revamped chair makes me even more determined to stop being afraid and just do it.
Oh My Gosh! Miss Trixie This Chair Is Astonishing! Great Day In The Morning! It Looks Just Like The High-End (over-the-moon-priced) Chairs I find myself drooling over. You are simply a Master when it comes to decorating! My husband came in while I viewing your site only moments ago and commented that you have amazing talent. Thank you for bringing us another of your glorious masterpieces! You give us all hope and possibility!

That chair is beautiful. I love anything burlap and this is no exception. One tip on keeping kitties away from furniture is to put double sided tape on the places where they like to scratch (usually the corners). They don't like the feel of it and learn to stay away. I did this on a new sofa, a new chair and a half and an ottoman and they don't come near them.

This is simply a gorgeous chair! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI love how your chair turned out! Its so very cute! I love the burlap -- you did a wonderful job!!
ReplyDeleteTrixie I have a similar chair that needs redoing. Was it difficult to remover the material on the arm rests? Did you just staple the material on there as well?
ReplyDeleteAwesome chair. I agree, I like the wood. I love painted furniture too, but sometimes the natural wood is the best choice.
ReplyDeleteyour link has comments with spam, you could redo the post and thus close it. I myself don't know how to take comments out once I publish them.
ReplyDeleteIhave been drawn to your blog, cause I was trying to learn how you made fake french feed sack. burlap. I think you use transfer sheets, that you have printed, right? Ihave never looked for the material, I just love it on your chair.
I've just finished a blog post on upholstering my vanity stool using a reclaimed coffee burlap sack so imagine my joy running into yours. It's so addictive I want to do more. I'm with you about keeping the wood as is. I love me some painted furniture, but if the wood has great patina, I say keep it untouched. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo soo sooooo gorgeous!! I am in love with your chair! Absolutely wonderful! Would love for you to come link it up at my weekend decorating party sometime! Following you along! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful. In South Africa you can buy burlap by the bag - 50m per bag. If I only know how to put print on it to make it authentic. Live you ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for inspirations.
