Kitchen Reveal

P1040682

 Finally, the kitchen is done!

SINK SIDE
It still amazes me when I look at pictures of the old Kitchen to see how far we've come. I'm so proud that we did it all ourselves minus the electrical and plumbing, we left that to the professionals. The kitchen is a small galley with 3 different doorways leading into it. We gutted it and replaced everything except the drywall.

I originally was going to paint the walls the lovely blue that we have in our dining room but once I primed all the walls white I loved how bright and cheery it looked.I did tie in the blue paint behind the lower shelf on the sink side, I think it added just a little color that I was looking for.

WINDOW NOOK
this was such an unused space, so we added pantry cabinets to flank the window and built a window bench. This little nook was meant to be there and it works great in this kitchen, not to mention all the storage the pantry cabinets hold.

STOVE SIDE
Talk about no counter space, I hated the fridge being on the right side, it blocked the view of the kitchen when you entered the room and stuck out way to far. I had several wishes for the new kitchen and one of them was a counter depth fridge, I love counter depth fridges especially in a small kitchen likes ours. The other wish was a slide-in stove, I love them because visually they don't crowd the backsplash area, just clean lines with no distraction. Well after searching and waiting for a sale I got both my wishes. We moved the fridge where the built-in oven used to be. I can't tell you how much it opened up the kitchen.

We built a cabinet for the fridge so it would have a built in look in plus it added more storage and display for above.
I love my new kitchen and wouldn't change a thing.

I told my husband, "You know I blog hop a lot when I see a little thumbnail picture of a kitchen and know who's it is!" : ) It's seriously gorgeous! I love that your light fixtures are more of a rusty patina and not white, it adds a lot of depth and warmth to the room. And if I lived there, I'd totally be curling up in the corner of that window seat every single morning with a cup of coffee! Very nicely done!

I love what you did with your kitchen, as I'm about to move into a little house that's 100 years old, and the kitchen needs a few updates... but the thing that drew my eye, was the "Eat" letters on your wall. I've been toying with adding something fun like that, and actually just looked at some letters yesterday in a local shop... would you mind sharing where you found yours?

Again, so pleased to have stumbled across you!

  144. Funny, the quote for our kitchen cabinets was twice the cost at Lowes & Home Depot than a local cabinet shop. The local shop did a stellar job! I love your kitchen redo, I did my cabinets in white too, it keeps the kitchen so light. My butcher block is a lighter color but I love it too.

  174. I had heard of your blog prior to the BHG article...but that kitchen really inspired me! I have the exact same kitchen style...galley with an eating area at the end...to say the least it's horrendous! I have done my best so far...painted cabinets, brick, installed flooring...but it needs more. Thank you for these great ideas..got my ideas flowing finally! You'll have to check in at my blog sometime to see my transformations! www.differentdog.com

  178. I love how the open shelves open up the kitchen. Your changes made your kitchen appear so much bigger. I wish that I'd been aware of a counter depth fridge, I just bought a smaller one. It works since it's just the cats and me. I envy your apron sink; you think your kitchen is small? If I'd splurge in one, I'd have lost "beaucoup" storage space. However, I am content with my white sink. No wonder BH & G picked your kitchen for the issue. I wonder if I can find that issue at this late date. hmm...

  179. I LOVE your tea kettle...! I've been looking for one in that color forever now! Do you mind sharing where it came from?
