$15.00 Dining Table

Don't you just love craigslist?

I found this cute French Provencal table for $15.00. The top needed a little TLC, but for the price it was so worth it.

I liked the original look with the stained top and cream colored base.

The length of the table fully extended with the leaf in was perfect, and since it had a little warping and a small gap on the leaf, I decided to make it permanently extended. We added metal joining brackets underneath the top to pull it closed. Because the apron had a gap when fully extended, we filled it with wood pieces.

I stripped the top using a eco friendly stripper, sanded it smooth and was able to correct some of the flaws in the top before staining.

Normally I like the table tops painted the same color as the rest of the table but my boyfriend wanted a stained top, so a stained top it was. 

I painted the base with acrylic craft paint, distressed it some and finished it with a furniture paste wax.

I'm really happy the way it turned out and love it with my buffet and cane chairs.

Have you tried DECOART'S modeling paste yet?

If you haven't, you really must give it a try, you'll be so amazed at the texture it can create.

I made the picture frame using a plain unfinished frame found at my local craft store. I applied one coat of turquoise acrylic craft paint, and for the stencil I used a sheet of laser cut scrapbook paper. For this project I tinted the modeling paste with a little bit of green craft paint before applying it. It worked out great, just make sure if you try this not to thin down the paste too much. The paste needs to be thick enough so it doesn't leak underneath your stencil. I like to let it dry at least 24 hours. Once dry I sanded the edges and aged it by using a thinned down dark brown paint, wiping off any excess.

Paris Burlap Chair

  This chair started out upholstered with a beautiful floral needlepoint fabric that over time my cats destroyed.

After awhile I got tired of seeing the tattered piece looking in need of repair, so I thought about using the same technique that I used on my faux framed French burlap feed sack,

I didn't do anything with the frame, as much as I love painted furniture I decided I liked the color of the wood on this chair.It would look awesome in a painted cream with a little distressing. Maybe in it's next life.

I removed the old fabric and stapled on the new burlap then I glued on a braided hemp trim to hide the staples. I can't wait to find another one to redo.
