Painted Chandelier

Most of you know that I will paint anything that doesn't move and this little garage sale find was no exception. I wanted a chandelier in my new bedroom but I didn't want to spend very much. I found this old brass chandelier for 5.00 at a garage sale. As it was, it would have looked just fine with my wall sconces, but I didn't want to look matchy matchy, so I painted it.

This is what it looked like when I bought it, I just wiped it down prior to painting and used your basic acrylic craft paint.

I mixed up a turquoise color and applied two coats, and when it was completely dry I used a sanding sponge and lightly sanded the raised detail.

It gave it the perfect worn look I was wanting.

 

I could have stopped there but I wanted it to be a little bit darker and aged.  The bright turquoise was a pretty color, but wanted it to look a little more subdued  for this room.

I thinned down some dark brown paint and applied it in sections, wiping off the excess before it dried.

Once the entire piece was completely dry I sprayed a satin clear coat over all the painted areas.

I just needed to purchase chandelier crystals and there you have it, and inexpensive painted chandelier.

Painted Wood Floors

For our new Kitchen we're installing wood flooring to match the rest of the house. I've always loved painted wood floors and especially checkerboard floors, so instead of staining it I thought I would paint it.

I'm still not sure what colors I want to use, but I've got plenty of time to make a decision on that one.

I must confess this one is my favorite, just lovely

Kitchen Reno- Day 1

Bye ugly old floor.

Boy was I glad to get rid of that ugly mess, only to find uglier underneath.

 

(this was the color the kitchen was when we bought the house)

This was our first day of reno. We removed the flooring, which were vinyl tiles covering ugly ugly 1970's-ish ceramic tile ,sorry I don't have a picture to show you just how ugly the ceramic tile was, but I'm sure you can only imagine how it looked if you were around in the 70's.

We used a small pry bar to wedge up under the ceramic tile and remove it from the backing, and since the vinyl tile was still adhered to the top, it minimized the chipping/flying ceramic debris. Broken ceramic tile and be just as sharp as glass can, so you have to be careful.

Because of the age, the tile mastic separated very easily from the underlayment.

We're doing all the work ourselves except the plumbing and electrical. So it will take a little time to get done, but at least we know it will be done right and the way we want it. Stayed tuned to see what I want the new floor to look like.
