SYTYCD Week 5-Faux Framed Burlap Feed sack

P1020758a

For this week's fabric challenge I wanted to show my framed burlap print.
The frame was found at a garage sale for......$1.00.  Boy do I love a bargain.
P1010610a
I love the texture of burlap and love vintage burlap feed sacks, however I don't like the high price tag that comes with them. So I decided I would make one. I made it personal to our family.
In English it means....... The house filled with love and many animals. King is my maiden name and Wills is my boyfriends last name, hence King Wills and No.2810 is our house number.
P1010882
Because of the way the frame was made I had to staple the burlap to the front of the frame, I glued a braided burlap trim to cover the staples.

Blog Brag~Beautiful Vintage Paris Pillow~

I received a sweet email yesterday all the way from Germany, Anita over at My Country Cottage Garden wanted to share with me how she was inspired by the Paris pillow that I made.

Hers turned out beautiful, I love the buttons and the rick rack that she added, she said that she printed directly onto the fabric. That's a technique I've been wanting to try. I can't wait to see what else she comes up with.

She has a very lovely blog with lots of great eye candy, so please pay her a visit Here

SYTYCD Week 4- Vintage Window Sign

First I would like to say congrats to Donna over at Funky Junk Interiors for winning last week. She's one of my favorite bloggers, very talented, and sweet too. I would also like to thank everyone that voted for me, I'm extremely grateful and happy for coming in second to Miss Donna.

Each week we are allowed to interpret our themes and for this week's white theme I wanted to add just a hint of my favorite color to the mix.

The vintage sign was made using this window I found at a garage sale for a $1.00.

P1020850 copy

 P1020847a copy
I came up with the design and had my local copy center blow it up to the size I needed and because I wanted a black and white image it only cost 1.50 for the copy.
I applied Mod Podge medium to the backside of the glass, the same type of technique you would use if you were decoupaging a glass plate.
I smoothed out the bubbles, trimmed it to size and added a different handle to tie in with the black in the print.

I love how it turned out and love even more that it only cost $2.50 to make.

SYTYCD Week 3 "OLD"Headboard

For this week's category "old", I wanted to show the headboard I made using a vintage settee and vintage closet doors.
P1020699c
The cost of the entire project was around $10.00 dollars, $6.00 for molding, $3.00 for settee, free closet doors, free scrap molding and leftover house paint.
P1010922
P1010915
This is what the doors and the settee looked like before they were transformed into the headboard.
I used the back and the arms of the settee for the top pieces.
I used several paint colors to achieve an old weathered paint look. I scraped away some of the paint in certain areas using a putty knife, revealing the underlying paint color.
P1010918

This is how it looks in my newly decorated bedroom,  I made all the pillows, using new and vintage fabric and I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

SYTYCD Week 2-Monogram Stand

With this week’s category being catalog inspired, I couldn't resist doing an anthropologie inspired item.

We were to be inspired by something we might see in a particular catalog, I did not want to do a copycat version of one particular item, but I believe I could see a monogram stand like this in their store.

I love to repurpose things into something new, this is what the garage sale frame looked like when I bought it.

P1010122 copy   P1020657 copy

The black velvet fabric was in bad shape and it just didn't fit in my color scheme, but I thought I could change it up a bit. For the base, I glued a wood block onto a wood craft plaque and drilled a wood dowel into the center. I applied a cream color base coat followed by a blackish-brown color, then distressed it to look old.
For the frame I applied a base coat of the same cream color and aged it using a dark brown paint, the wiped off some of the paint to create more depth.
For the cursive letter "T" I used SHRINKY DINKS, then painted the letter to look like it was metal. For for a couple of bucks of materials, I have a custom Monogram "Anthropolgie" inspired stand.

Chest Transformation

I found this beat up, in need of a makeover, silverware chest for $2.00 at a garage sale.
P1020455
While in rough shape, it was structurally sound and solid wood, so I figured I could jazz it up with a little paint.
I applied a couple coats of cream craft paint, highly distressed it and epoxied a vintage rhinestone brooch to the front. Now I just need to replacing the inside fabric lining.
P1020649
I’ll be using it as my catch all junk drawer box.
