Painted Chandelier

Most of you know that I will paint anything that doesn't move and this little garage sale find was no exception. I wanted a chandelier in my new bedroom but I didn't want to spend very much. I found this old brass chandelier for 5.00 at a garage sale. As it was, it would have looked just fine with my wall sconces, but I didn't want to look matchy matchy, so I painted it.

This is what it looked like when I bought it, I just wiped it down prior to painting and used your basic acrylic craft paint.

I mixed up a turquoise color and applied two coats, and when it was completely dry I used a sanding sponge and lightly sanded the raised detail.

It gave it the perfect worn look I was wanting.

I could have stopped there but I wanted it to be a little bit darker and aged.  The bright turquoise was a pretty color, but wanted it to look a little more subdued  for this room.
I thinned down some dark brown paint and applied it in sections, wiping off the excess before it dried.
Once the entire piece was completely dry I sprayed a satin clear coat over all the painted areas.
I just needed to purchase chandelier crystals and there you have it, and inexpensive painted chandelier.

  15. I just love that color so much and the gold accents are just fabulous! Too bad we have ceiling fans throughout our house - otherwise, my boys would be up to their eyeballs in chandeliers!

  19. Ah Miss Trixie, What A Gorgeous Make-Over! It looks beautiful in your new bedroom! Can't wait to see what you do with the kitchen remodel. I know firsthand how exciting (and a wee bit stressful) such an undertaking is. When my mama moved in with us, we had to build a mother-n-law suite. Every day (for about 65 days) we'd meet a new contractor. From drywall crews to roofers. But in the end, when everything finally came together..I was so happy.

Thanks for your sweet visit the other day. I'm always so pleased when I see you've popped in.

Hugs of Friendship & Georgia Sunshine, Terri

  20. Looks perfect, like the idea of using craft paint, I usually use metal paint so might give the craft paint with sealer a go next time.
