My Kitchen Wish List

Next month we will be gutting our old 70's kitchen, and since our galley kitchen doesn't have room for an island, the next item on my wish list was open shelving. I'm still deciding on the actual look but I love looking at tons of inspiration pictures, here are just a few I found.

The fun part will be shopping for all the pretty goodies to go on the shelves. I can't wait to cook my first meal in my new kitchen.

  2. Hi, I love your inspiration photos! If you wanted to make some custom shelving, you can do so with some 1x8 or 1x12's and some baseboard moulding. Thrifty Decor Chick did it and so did I after I saw her post on how to do it. Sooooo easy! I'm actually nagging my husband to hang the shelves I made! 1 for the kitchen and 2 for my daughters room that I spray painted Blue Ocean Breeze by Krylon!

  6. Oh I've always been fearful of open shelving! I can't wait to see what you do with it b/c I know it will be awesome. I like the picture with all of the cake plates because I have a thing for cake plates!

  7. Hi Trix! I did open shelving 15 years ago when nobody had it and for 3 years everyone who came in my home would say, "Oh! I love that, but you really shouldn't have open shelves you have to dust them all the time"

Really?! I already had them and they felt like they had to tell me how to handle them? Really? Trust me you will love open shelves.

Notice what makes open shelves so great? Harmony. All one color or all one style. I can't wait to see what you do with yours! Please post before pics as well as after, girlie!

  9. I love the open shelving look too! I have thought about it many times for ours, just taking the doors off of our cabinets and having the pretty dishes show. Unfortunately, not all of our dishes and glassware is really 'show worthy' and then there is the fact that the kids put the dishes away and they cannot for the life of themselves put the dishes and glasses in any order. I'd do it myself (and sometimes do) but then I'd have to find other chores for them!! That's probably what they hoping for!! Theresa

  10. so the common theme is white woodwork with aqua accents ;).ive always liked the white kitchen but unable to do in my present home. this is totally you. i bought my apron sink on line it was my splurge totally love it. keep us posted on how it turns out. i really love those aqua pendant lights and the subway tile. also like the wood counter we have that warms it up some and granite is totally over done [in my mind] the wood was more affordable than even laminate.also if you are gutting the kitchen you might want to replace the base cabinets with drawers and pullouts. we did this and omg its soooo worth it.[in my next life i want to be a kitchen designer ;)]

  17. How wonderful. We built a new kitchen about 5 years ago and hubby wanted warm farmhouse...I wanted white....he got the warm wood looking cabinets but I have white everywhere...we compromised and I admit I love it. I'm so happy for you to do what you want. You will be so glad when it is done but the process is good too. The open shelving will look wonderful! How fun. Looking forward to your kitchen evolving!
    Blessings,
    Debbie

  19. My wardrobe in my bedroom is painted the same color as that cabinet. You can see it here: My Wardrobe It looks a little greener in the picture than it actually is.
