Inexpensive Slip Covered Chairs

I love to sew and have been sewing since I was 7 years old,  making clothes, curtains, pillows, you name it I like sewing it. Well maybe one thing I don’t like to sew is slipcovers, can you say never ever ever again. While they turned out great, it’s just such a tedious process making the exact fitting pattern and crossing your fingers once you’re done hoping it all works and hoping you didn’t waste money on fabric. I will so be paying someone next time to do this.

I bought the matching chairs for 10.00, the fabric was very dirty and stained but structurally they were good. I steam cleaned the old fabric just so I could feel like they were somewhat clean underneath.

I painted and distressed the wood and used fabric that had a linen look to it, I think I paid around 2.50 a yard at Wal-Mart. So for under 25.00 bucks I have 2 cute Shabby Chic looking matching chairs.

  1. Love the chairs!! and the table between them. I slipcovered my couch about 8 years ago. It has held up nicely and we have liked it. I really am ready to change some things but I am having night sweats about doing another slipcover!!! I know exactly how you feel...but you did an awesome job!!!

  2. I think they look really good! They look so much more than what you spent on them. I know the time sewing is priceless, but you should be proud at how well they turned out. Happy New Year.

  3. I love that linen looking fabric from Wal-Mart. I use it often and it really does add that natural look at a raction of the cost. These chairs have a beautiful shape and you really gave them a new life.

  4. I think they turned out really nice! Love the shape of the chairs. Have to agree-slipcovers are a pain!!! At least you covered them in a nice neutral so they won't need to be updated for years!

  11. You did a great job. I said the same thing about my first (and last) slipcover a few years ago. . . "never again". But now, I'm tempted to try again. I think the frustration of making slipcovers is a lot like childbirth. It hurts like the dickens, but you forget about the pain and enjoy the reward.

  12. Those look really great. I have recovered a couch and a couple of chairs and have vowed to never do it again. It takes a lot of work and you do have to be exact. Yours look professionally done.
